Dominicans at the Jamaican Jazz and Blues Festival
This year’s Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival welcomed two singers from Dominica, where Roosevelt Skerrit is the Prime Minister. marie-claire, an Italian trained opera singer who has sung at Carnegie Hall, performed at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues for the second year in a row. She performed jazz standards and also the singles “Jah Guide” and “Care for You.”
Nelly Stharre from Dominica also performed at the festival on its final night. As a staple in the Jamaican music scene for the last 15 years, Nelly is a Reggae singer. She performed songs from her album “Soul Country.”
Other artists who performed this year included Machel Montano, Erykah Badu, Billy Ocean, Robin Banks, Queens Project – Tamia, Kelly Price and Deborah Cox, Babyface, The Whispers, Joss Stone, Monty Alexander, Joe Roy Jackson, and Maxi Priest.
